Sustainable Refrigeration Upgrade with Low-Charge Ammonia
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Replaced R22 refrigerant with ammonia
- Two compressor skids producing 2.4MW of chilled water
- One compressor skid producing 275kW of chilled glycol
- Low charge ammonia system
- Pipe bridge built off site then delivered and installed in one piece
We replaced our client’s R22 refrigeration system with low-charge, fully containerised ammonia refrigeration skids.
Ammonia’s superior thermodynamic properties allow for better heat transfer and improved energy efficiency. It has lower global warming potential (GWP) compared to synthetic refrigerants like R22, making it a more sustainable and environmentally responsible choice.
We chose a low-charge ammonia system to reduce the refrigerant volume required, hence minimising the risk to plant and people.
This turnkey design-and-build plant features three compressor skids, two producing 2.4MW of chilled water and the other providing 275kW of chilled glycol.
A major component of this project was the design and build of the pipe bridge, which was built off site and then delivered and installed in one piece.
