Fast, Efficient Results - When it’s Needed Most
Excellent, energy efficient refrigeration is crucial to Hawkes Bay’s fruit and vegetable growing industry.
When Cyclone Gabrielle hit, fruit and vegetable business Taste of Summer sustained devastating damage to their plant, equipment and stores. Ravaged by flooding and coated in silt, the primary cold stores ground – based refrigeration plant was irreparably damaged.
“This business is situated between Bay View and Eskdale, the worst hit zone,” says Nick Cummings, Estimator, Excel Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Hawkes Bay.
Every day counted – large fruit stocks were ripe and ready for storage, processing and sale.

The Commercial Services team moved quickly, salvaging what equipment they could, and at the same time, Nick designed a new system, capable of supporting the business now and into the future.
“Once the design and quote were accepted, it was an intense push to get the gear installed, commissioned and functional as quickly as possible,” Nick says.
The new plant was commissioned just three weeks after the cyclone.
