NEW REFRIGERATION PLANTROOM AT AFFCO WAIROA
KEY PROJECT INFORMATION
- Complete turn-key project including refrigeration, piping & mechanical, and E&IC.
- Refrigeration capacity of 2.5 MW at -37.5˚C and 4.5 MW at -10˚C.
- Heat recovery of over 1.5 MW providing warm water at 40˚C.
- Medium temp heat pump providing 1.1 MW of hot water at 65 ˚C.
- High temperature heat pump providing 1.3 MW of hot water at over 85 ˚C.
Excel Engineering designed and built a turnkey ammonia refrigeration system, incorporating heat pumps and covering all aspects of process, mechanical, and electrical work. This comprehensive project included refrigeration, piping & mechanical, and electrical & instrumentation control (E&IC).
The project was executed in three key stages:
- Design & Build: Construction of a new plantroom, including crane lifting the vessels and compressors into position on site.
- Integration & Decommissioning: Connection to existing cold storage facilities and decommissioning of the old plantroom.
- Heat Pump Integration: Full-site integration with new supply temperatures and buffer tanks at 45°C, 65°C, and 85°C.
Key Features & Benefits:
- Efficient Heat Recovery: Capturing over 1000 kW of energy to produce warm water at 40°C.
- Medium Temperature Heat Pump: Delivering 1.1 MW of hot water at 65°C.
- High Temperature Heat Pump: Supplying 1.3 MW of hot water at 88°C.
This system significantly improves energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational performance across the facility.
