Heinz Watties Dehumidifier Project
Excel Hawkes Bay is the incumbent refrigeration needs service provider at Heinz Watties.
We have a technician on site every day, ensuring systems are running and storage is consistently at temperature, says James Guilford, Excel Hawkes Bay Managing Director.

The plant has a fresh dehumidification system, installed to optimise their spiral freezer.
“Kraft Heinz originally identified the bottleneck in their spiral freezer with the short intervals between defrosting required and had considered a number of different options.
“We looked a little bit outside of the box for them and proposed a non-refrigeration type of solution with the dehumidification that Kraft Heinz, at the time, hadn’t even considered,” James says.
The old system required a two day break in production, and could only operate for one week at a time, says Craig McGhee, Heinz/Watties Site Engineering Manager. During the break, the system had to defrost before it could begin operating again.
“With the dehumidification project, that’s now been pushed out to a four week period, so effectively we have gained 90 days extra manufacturing per year,” he says.
